Ipsos i-Say Review 2021: Can You Really Earn Money?

(This post may contain affiliate links. See the full Disclaimer for more information.)

You’re probably here in search of that perfect side hustle- quick, easy, provides a little extra cash.

Whether you are pursuing a debt-free journey or looking to save for that amazing pair of shoes you saw online, all of your research on side hustles surfaces one common theme… SURVEYS…and you’ve probably seen the name Ipsos i-Say thrown around.

Personally, I haven’t had much luck with some of the more commonly advertised survey platforms out there.  Like everyone else, I had high hopes of earning some decent money after reading other reviews on the interwebs and hearing influencers on YouTube boast that they had earned $100 per month just by taking surveys.

Unfortunately, that had not been my experience at all.

But then, I saw a FaceBook ad for Ipsos i-Say and decided to give it another shot.

I’m here to give you my honest Ipsos i-Say review so that you can see if it’s right for you…just keep on reading for more information.

i-Say is an online survey community provided by Ipsos, one of the top multinational market research and consulting companies in the world.

You have the chance to earn rewards from the comfort of your own home simply by taking surveys and sharing your opinion.

To get started, all you have to do is sign-up, complete your profile, and you’ll receive an email each time a survey is available in your dashboard.

After you received your notification of a new survey, go to your dashboard and click, start the survey.

From there, you may be asked some general questions to collect data on your particular demographic-postal code, ethnicity, age, income- and then you’ll proceed into the official survey.

These questions will primarily be in multiple-choice, yes/no, or agree/disagree formats with the occasional text box for free-form responses.

At the end of the survey, you will receive the allotted number of points displayed when you initially clicked into the survey.

If you do not qualify for a survey or if a survey is closed, i-Say will often still provide you with a few points (typically 5), which is pretty awesome.

How often you get new i-Say surveys in your dashboard will depend on availability.  In my first month, I received around 2 a day.  Each night after work, I would find myself filling out a quick survey! It was super fun!

However, after I earned my first 500 points, the steady stream of new surveys has slowed down.  On average, I now complete 4 per week and I find that the surveys close or meet their quota much more quickly.  So, even if I receive an email notification in the morning, I may not be able to participate in the survey if I attempt to complete it in the evening.

There may be an algorithm that favors new sign-ups to hook you in so keep that in mind.

The type of surveys offered by i-Say is diverse.  Topics can range from product insights, entertainment, brand awareness, efficacy of advertisement campaigns, and more.

The most frequent ones that I receive are related to product insights and behaviours relating to spending habits.

How often do you use this type of product?

Within the last month, which of these products have you used?

Which of these products do you intend to buy in the next 3 months?

My favorite one was a daily diary on alcohol consumption.  All I had to do was complete an entry on what type of alcohol I consumed, if any, for a total of 30 days and I received 500 points. It was basically zero effort.

Surveys:  This is the primary way to earn rewards. Surveys that take between 10-15 minutes will  be worth 45 points.  Surveys that take between 20-30 minutes will be worth 90 points.

Poll Predictor: Each time you complete a survey, you’ll receive an offer to play in the Poll Predictor.  You’ll be given a question where you’ll guess the % of respondents who answered, yes. In exchange, you’ll receive entries into prize draws.

Draws: Every 4 months, i-Say will randomly select 10 members to win 5,000 points each.

Loyalty rewards: Extra points are given each time you meet a membership milestone on the platform.  You’ll earn 100 pts after completing 19 surveys and 20 points each when you hit 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. You’ll also get 20 points on your membership anniversary.

Refer friends: 100 points are added to your account each time someone signs up from your referral link and completes a survey.

Okay, okay…I get it.  Stop the rambling and get on with the juicy information.

In order to start cashing out for rewards, you’re going to have to reach a minimum of 200 points. However, this will only unlock opportunities to donate to charity for you do-gooders out there.

If you want rewards for yourself, you’ll need a minimum of 500 points. As a dollar value, this equates to $5.

I’ve been participating in surveys for about two months now and, when I attempt a little math, the hourly wage comes out to about $2.50/hour.

Given that the average minimum wage in the US is $7.25 USD and in Canada between $11-$15 CAD, this is less than peanuts. But, honestly, it makes sense for the type of work that is involved.  You barely need to exert any physical or mental energy.  Nobody is counting on you.  You can choose to participate or not and, if you do, you’re at home with zero interaction with the outside world.

So, the honest truth is that you are NOT going to become a millionaire from taking surveys and it WON’T allow you to quit your day job, if that’s what your expectations are.

(Or, maybe I just haven’t cracked the code yet.)

Too many people know about this not-so-secret side hustle and flock to sign-up by the thousands all around the world.

Once you earn enough points, you’ll be able to redeem your points for a variety of rewards by clicking on the Rewards option at the top of your dashboard.

Here’s a shortlist:

  • Amazon
  • iTunes
  • Starbucks
  • Tim Hortons
  • Winners
  • Indigo

For those of you who are more interested in cash, you can also redeem points for cash on a virtual prepaid Visa card or through PayPal.

The pace in which you rack up those coveted points will, of course, depend on how many surveys are available to you and how many you are able to complete.

I’ve been on i-Say for two months now and, to give you some perspective, I reached 500 points around the 1 month mark and I just earned another 500 points.

i-Say is a legitimate paid survey platform.

I’ll mention it again for emphasis.  i-Say is backed by Ipsos, a huge market research company that was founded in 1975.

You will provide feedback on real companies such as major financial institutions, telecommunication or skincare companies, etc.

Personally, I’ve had a ton of exposure to surveys for banks (CIBC, DesJardins, RBC, BMO, Tangerine)…maybe it’s my demographic, who knows…. and provided my opinion on branding, banking habits, and ad campaigns.

Most importantly, the rewards are real and there is little to no downtime to receive them. If it’s an electronic gift card, it’ll be in your email inbox immediately after you’ve redeemed your points.

Surveys bring the promise of a quick buck for barely any effort.  It doesn’t matter what your background is or what level of education you have.  As long as you have an opinion, are willing to give that opinion for market research, and know how to click a few buttons on a web browser or mobile app, you can take a survey!

Back in the day, they used to be a dime a dozen because they were in-person.  When you’d get that call to come in to test out a new product set to be launched by a big company, SO EXCITING….and you’d get like $50!

Now, there are a TON of survey opportunities out there and, therefore, many many reviews because we all want to know one thing…CAN I ACTUALLY EARN MONEY FROM SURVEYS?

The fact of the matter is, your bank account will not be overflowing with cash from surveys.  But, i-Say is easy to join and you get to start earning points as a new member right away. You never feel like you’re running in circles trying to figure out where to go to actually accumulate points or if it’s a legitimate service.

So, if you have some downtime and want a super simple way to earn a few extra bucks each month, I say go for it!  I’ve been having a lot of fun getting to know the world of market research and having the opportunity to share my feedback.
